SuperFans

Clipper Darrell is a bit obsessed even for me as a UCF fan.

Speaking of a college fans: Prayers and well wishes go out to Wild Bill Utah St super fan! He is in the hospital suffering from heart ailments.

As much as I think I am a big UCF fans- there are people who take it to the next level. Thanks to them it makes me look normal.

Curling Baby!!!

Not sure why but I can't stop watching Curling. I never seen in previous Olympics but I am digging it. It would be like watching Bocce ball in the Summer Olympics. As most of you know I enjoy odd sports so this is up there. Kind of like frozen Shuffleboard. Slide that Stone baby!

Boston: My Time at Fenway

I have been to Boston many times in the past 8 years and I have watched a game at Game On! during a Sox game. I have done a tour of Fenway, but never been to a game at Fenway. I had such a great time even though the Sox lost to the Rangers.
I met and felt like a celeb with my Korean Friends who were visiting the US for 8 weeks. We met an usher, Rodulfo who has been w/ the Sox for over 3o years and has a Sox World Championship Ring.

Drank some beers and had a great time with my friend Rich!

Dwight Howard should have won the Dunk Championship!

Nothing against Nate Robinson- love the whole Kryptonite green concept and for his height he had some crazy dunks. But Dwights phone booth - 12 ft rim dunk was awesome. I will say he should have come up with something better for his last dunk but he still should have won the Slam Dunk Contest!

UCF vs Memphis

Final Score-  Tough loss for the Kirk and the Knights.

Met with Coach Calipari (not a good pic of me)
With former NBA'er Rod Strickland

The crazy scene at the UCF/Memphis game. Knights leading at halftime. Go Knights! on 12seconds.tv
The scene @ Halftime.

It was a tough loss for the Knights.  But man what a great atmosphere.  We have over 9K fans.  Everyone actually wore black to a BLACK OUT.  It had a feeling like we were playing at an NCAA opening round.

In the end we just don't have the depth that Memphis has.  They turned it on and we could not keep up the output.  If we play with that level of intensity- we will do very well in conference play.

Everyone likes Erin Andrews

If you watch College football you know that almost every guy loves Erin Andrews, ESPN sideline reporter.  I saw this today on Yahoo. Rey Maualuga from USC and celebrates his Rose Bowl win.

The life of a UCF fan

Last night was a tough loss for the Knights.  I get so frustrated with how we find ways to kind of look good (lights out Defense) in the 1st half and little by little the team sucks you in thinking that we will win and that the things will click into place.  However every 2nd half the other team makes the adjustments and we with our anemic offense die the slow death.

It is really hard to swallow the UCF Kool Aid.  I would love to think that we will go to a Bowl game and we were done with the roller-coaster ride we go on every year.  I thought that after going on a 17 losing streak we exorcised the demons and were starting turn the corner. That the sleeping giant was starting to grow up.

As a fan you get tired of  being the one that has the losing team week after week.  I feel like UCF is more a Pretender then a Contender.  We do well and then crap the bed the next year.  I have been following the Knights for many years (since '94) and I have had more heart ache then joy because of them.  Yet I cannot turn my back on them.  I am emotionally, financially invested in them.

I sometimes feel as if I am in an abusive relationship or I am a sport fan masochist and I like having UCF hurt me.  I do not know why I care so much about them but I do.  I am a Knight, my wife is a Knight and I love UCF.  I bleed Black and Gold.

I have gotten better with age and UCF losses.  It use to mess up my entire weekend and it would consume me.  Now I realize I have a wonderful family and a awesome wife and baby girl.
However it still bothers me and it still sucks.

So lets see what this week brings.

I remember George O'Leary saying that every time he lost he would die a little inside.  If that was the case he would be dead already being the coach @ UCF.

So who wants some UCF Kool Aid?

NBA starts next Tuesday!

I figured what better way to get ready for basketball then to watch Dwight Howards top 10 best game dunks!

Enjoy. Number 2 is my favorite just cause he wins the game with it.

Were Back!!!

UCF is back on the list no College Football team wants to be on. ESPN's Bottom 10. This is what they have to say about us:
"Sure, the Knights are 1-3. Sure, they lost 58-3 at former Bottom 10 member UTEP. How are the Knights lucky? Well, they are only 37 miles from Disney World."

The positive in all this is we are playing a team that ESPN Bottom Ten Waiting List this week- SMU.

So I will not lie and say i am not frustrated and upset with how we are playing. However I do know that we lost our Senior QB, our NFL RB (Kevin Smith), and our Lunch Pale go to work Offense and Defensive line. So that is hard to replace.

I do not expect to repeat as Conference Champ but I did expect a Bowl game this year and at least 7 wins.

So I have made this image below to help me keep the faith. We are only 4 games into the season with a 1/3 of the way left. So I am going to wait and see and most of all BELIEVE that we will figure out a way to win some games. Maybe they will open up the offense?

Divorce + Pro Baseball

Kristen and I went to the doctor with Bella today and as we were going through some parenting magazines we came across this:

According to the National Center for Health Statistics, "The Northeast has the most ball clubs and the lowest divorce rate in the U.S."

Searching online I found this from Divorce360.com:

If you’re married and you live in a city that has a professional baseball you’re less likely to get a divorce than if you live in a city without a pro ball team. “You’re 28 percent more likely to get a divorce if you live in a town that wants a professional baseball team,” said Howard Markman, director of the Center for Marital and Family Studies. “Baseball is something couples can do together for fun. Baseball is a family-oriented activity, unlike the theatre. If you talk while you’re at the theatre they’ll kick you out. But you can go to a baseball game and talk to your hearts content and nobody cares, explain Markman. Couples who attend baseball games are more likely to stay together over the long haul than those who don’t.

I wonder if this goes to other sports as well. My friend Gdup wants to know the statistics of having 2 pro teams in your city if that helps. I say not if you a NY Mets and Yankees fan!

It is not Knight Time on my Birthday!

My birthday is Sept 20th and being a big UCF fan. You can see below that the Knights have not been very kind to me on my birthday or in the weekend of my birthday. Lets hope the Knights will begin to turn around for me. Since it looks like the Boston College game will not be a gimme game for the Knights who are 10.5 point underdogs in Boston.

So if you want to wish me a Happy Birthday- Give a good luck wish to my Knights. Not that if they lose they will spoil my Birthday, but it will totally make that much better!

College Football is better then NFL

I love College Football. I really think that its better then the NFL.

I have been thinking about it for years and I have looked up lists and here are some of the reasons why College Football is better then the NFL (This is a mix of lists found online and my own thoughts added in).  If you have more or want me to add more- leave me a comment or email me.

Here is why I think College Football is better then the NFL:

  • The Fans- You are actually be connected with the school... it's not just a team that plays in the area.  You went to school there.  You bleed your teams colors - Black and Gold for me!
  • Rivalries-  Michigan/Ohio State, Florida/Georgia, Florida/Florida St, Texas/Oklahoma, USC/UCLA.  Heck even UCF/USF games showed more intensity then most NFL games.
  • High scoring games
  • Different Types of Offenses- There are so many types of teams that run various offenses: The option, The Spread, West Coast, The Pistol, etc
  • On campus stadiums - they're all unique. They have cool names like "Death Valley", "The Big House", and "The Rock".  Its your house and guess what you don't have to worry about your team's ownership moving the team to LA or Kansas City.
  •  It's always on - there is a college football game on TV, somewhere, 6 days a week. There is no such thing as too much college football.
  • Mascots - UGA, Bevo, the dancing Irish guy - better than anything the pro sports has to offer
  • Tradition - the whole Army/Navy thing, GatorBait, Jump Around @ Wisconsin,  the Tomahawk Chop, "We are _________", making out with your date after a Aggies score, Zombie Nation after a UCF touchdown
  • Game Intros- Enter the Sandman for VT, Space Odyssey 2001 for South Carolina, the Seminole and flaming spear,  The USC Trojan sword, The running of Ralphie @ Colorado, The Wramblin Wreck @ GT, etc.
  • Saturday Tailgating- it is a holy day. Sunday you go to church. You have to work the next day. Not on Saturday, you can drink and eat and tailgate all day and recover on Sunday.
  • Overtime- It is not sudden death. You get a chance to score and match. Makes it fair.
  • Comebacks -College games are never over, because you can always see the 35-point quarter. Emotions rule and swing wildly. Execution gives way to momentum. College teams can ride a wave of euphoria from four touchdowns behind.  They are not professionals Momentum is huge in college football!
  • Marching bands- Halftime shows.  Some schools have some great bands.
  • Fight songs-  Every school has a fight songs.  Some are easily recognizable that once you hear it you know its them.  The whole crowd sings it and knows it.  Not the case in the NFL.
  • Bowl Season- Yes the playoffs are great and I do wish that the National Championship was decided via playoff- but I also love watching college teams take part in Holiday Bowl games. Not to mention I have a better chance of watching UCF in a bowl game then going for a National Championship.
  • Upsets-  Its big when a team like UCF beats a ranked team- not as shocking if the Dolphins beat the Patriots or Colts.  There really is a David vs Goliath moments-  what was bigger upset-  Appalachian St vs Michigan or the Giants/Patriots SuperBowl?
  • Every game matters- since there are no playoff- every game matters or else you do not compete for a National Championship.
Think of any more share them....

Bye Manny!

I will miss your antics @ Fenway and the HR, RBI and BA you had. You will be missed. Just don't go to the Yanks next season.

Lakers/Celtics

Well the NBA and ABC got their wish.  The Lakers and Celtics will square off again for the NBA Championship.  The funny part is as a kid I was a huge Lakers fan.  My favorite player of all time was Magic Johnson and I hated the Celtics.

Fast-forward 15 years and I would rather see KG, Pierce, Allen, Doc Rivers and the C's win it all.  I cannot stand Kobe and the Lakers.  It was bad enough when my 2nd player after Magic Johnson, Shaq left the Orlando Magic to play in LA. to win some rings and then to Miami.

Should be a good series. Lets see who prevails!  Will be cool since they will probably have former Celtics and Lakers at the games.

Minor leaguer traded for 10 bats

Click on the pic to read more

I love odd news- I love odd sports news even more.

This pitcher, John Odom got traded to the the Laredo Broncos for 10 Prairie Sticks Maple Bats.  How would like to be that guy?

From getting drafted by the San Franciso Giants to being traded for 10 bats.  This is not the oddest trade I have read.  I actually read once that a player in the Northern league was traded for 60 cases of Budweiser beer.

Manny being Manny

So Manny has his eye on a Gold Glove.  More plays like this and he may get one (I doubt it, but it would be great!)
