Work Road trip!
Ok you may or may not have known that I along with another coworker (Stacie) were the lucky winners of a going to Greenville, MS for a job fair. Kristen and Bella were not excited but thank god for family for being there to help out and be there with Kristen while I was out.
Ok so you may have read about some of this if you follow my twitter. But here is the recap of my trip. Pictures to soon follow (forgot the cord to download the pics).
Here are the highlights:
- Went to the airport with Stacie and our flight was delayed.
- Got to see UCF fans go to Boston while I was flying to Jackson, MS to then drive to Greenville, MS.
- Met JJ Reddick- DUKE Basketball Legend and NBA Magic player that gets no minutes. (Stacie thought he was hot)
- JJ had a man purse.
- When I sit in the plane - guess who is sitting next to me? The former NBA player-Clarence Witherspoon. He is retired and likes to pretend to sleep so no one bothers him. Granted I have no idea how I recognized him and was right when I asked him if he was Spoon.
- Had the coolest stewardess (Melody), asked her if she was wearing enough flare and she said yes she had the minimum amount of flare required(Office Space reference). Needless to say Melody became my Fav at the point.
- We land in MS and got get the rental car and we get in our car and drive to leave the premise- The lady tells me we got into the wrong rental car. The cars in Avis are unlocked with the keys in it and you just put your bags and go. Yeah well I went and got the wrong car. Thank goodness- the 1st car was a mini van and we ended up with a Suzuki XL7 not a bad little SUV.
- I finally get to leave the premise and I turn and go the wrong way. The guard had to run after me to tell me I was going the wrong way.
- On the map it said that the drive from Jackson, MS to Greenville, MS was 76 miles- yeah try more like 110 miles. We of course decide not to listen to my Tom Tom and looked at the map and the advise of the AVIS lady- took us the long route and it took us more like 2.5- 3 hours to get to Greenville, MS.
- We drove in the middle of no where. No Where would be getting lost. However in the middle of nowhere there is a Walmart.
- As we drive down this crappy dark road with no lights- it sounds like its raining- nope it just bugs colliding with the wind shield at a rapid pace.
- We get to the Days Inn and we ask the women where to eat at and she says the best place to go is: Auntie Cassie's Restaurant where we were greeted with the Cook saying- Sh!t don't they know we are closed. With only 2 people there we decide it was time to go, not to mention $13 for burger was not working for me.
- We end up @ Shoneys- Where Stacie has food allergies and the one thing that she can have (Mahi Mahi) was out. So she had potato wedges for dinner.
- I decide to take a shower before bed and I have never seen brown water before and I felt like a baby seal covered in oil while being soaped up and trying to rinse off.
- We wake up and get ready and head to the Job Fair where we come to find out it was a High School job fair- So here we are a Fortune 100 company and all these high school kids want is the free stuff. "What you got?" and "Can I have this?" were the common questions along with "What does your company do?" Yeah nothing like traveling to a job fair to get like 5 resumes. Stacie may have actually found a candidate for one of her tough projects in the middle east (silver lining).
- We decide to listen to Tom Tom and follow what she says and as we are driving we decide to stop at Dodge's Fried Chicken- a Fried Chicken place in a gas station and you know what- Good call- It was good. I had chicken tenders and a roll with 2 Jo Jo's (potato wedges). That was some good stuff.
- Needless to say Tom Tom was right we got to Jackson, MS in less then 2 hours and got to La Quinta in time to relax and recharge.
- After getting freshened up we head to this place called The Bulldog. There I had a MS beer called- Lazy Mag Pecan draft. Pretty good stuff. After a dinner and a few drinks we decided to head back to the hotel.
- Here I am writing to you on Birthday about my fun adventure. The pictures will make it come to life the fun adventure this has been. I am just glad I did not have to do this trip on my own- Stacie and Grizwald made it fun!
